To Portugal, but first some unfinished business in Spain

I'm flying to Paris on Sunday to rendez-vous with The French. Domi has been in France since early March, visiting family and friends - and his dentist. Le plaisir et la douleur ... the pleasure and the pain.

Nous aurons une grande aventure a venir - we have a great adventure ahead - including some weeks walking in Portugal. This is a new destination for Domi and for me. We are excited to discover together a country neither of us has visited before.

Our initial idea was to head straight to southern Portugal - from Paris via Seville. But as the time drew near, we were reminiscing about our adventures in Andalusia in May 2015. Our plan then was to walk the Camino Mozarabe from Granada to Merida - but that was not to be. Though we did walk out of Granada along the peregrino path, we didn't make it to Merida.

Those who followed that blog may recall that in the first few days Domi developed a foot infection. At the end of day 5, in the charming town of Castro del Rio, we made the difficult decision to stop. The next morning we took a bus the next stage to Cordoba. From there, we enjoyed a wonderful 'bonus' week touring around Andalusia with Tarifa, Cadiz and Vejer de la Frontera just some of the highlights. Proof that dark clouds can indeed have a shiny silver lining.

We have often talked about returning to the Mozarabe. So that's where we're heading first. From Seville we'll travel to either Castro del Rio or Cordoba - and continue our Way to the final town of Merida, where the Mozarabe joins the Via de la Plata.

From Merida, our idea is to travel to south west Portugal to walk on the Rota Vicentina trails from Cape St Vincent to Santiago do Cacem. But first things first - to Andalusia in Spain, where the Camino awaits.

That's our plan for now ... though, as The French says, 'Les plans sont faits pour etre changes' - plans are made to be changed. Je suis d'accord. I agree.

Hasta luego
