CP Day 3 Viana de Costelo to A Guarda 27 kms + ferry + 4 kms

Today we walked under grey skies (until mid afternoon) on a peaceful path, mostly in the hinterland following coastline north to our eventual ferry crossing from Portugal to Spain. Our early start (7.15) meant we met quite a few pilgrims for a change (German, Dutch and Polish). A long and enjoyable day and lost an hour crossing the border on the 10 minute ferry ride so arrived in A Guarda around 5 instead of 4! To celebrate our first night back in Spain, we splurged on Hotel Convento de San Benito (like a mini Parador - but just 69 euros for room with gorgeous view and including desayuno). Dinner at local bar - serrano, chorizo, manchego, calamares frites - and Rioja Temperanillo. Bliss. Realise we have more days than we need to get to Santiago on 3 May - so will take our time leaving tomorrow and enjoy a short walk up the Galician coast to Oia.
